Principal's Message

On behalf of Raja Narendra Lal Khan Women’s College, I extend a warm welcome to you all.

The College began its journey on 22nd August, 1957 in what was once the Gope Palace, thanks to the munificence of Mrs. Anjali Khan, wife of Raja Amarendra Lal Khan of Narajole to whom the Palace belonged, and the unstinting support of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal. Prior to that the Gope Palace was fortunate to host many well known freedom fighters and leaders of the country, the legacy of whose footprints it bears to this day.

The development of the College into an outstanding institution of higher education owes much to the sincere and untiring efforts and excellent administration of its founding Principal, Dr. Niharkana Majumdar and the next Principal Dr. Sushila Mondal. At present it has 23 undergraduate Departments and one postgraduate Department and efforts are on to open a few more postgraduate Departments from the next academic session. Its meritorious and disciplined students and research scholars, highly qualified and dedicated faculty and proficient staff are a matter of pride for the College today.

Raja Narendra Lal Khan Women’s College, despite being situated in rural surroundings at Phulpahari panchait on the outskirts of Midnapore Town near the edge of Paschim Medinipur district, has all the modern facilities and equipment required in higher education today. The website of the College provides comprehensive information about it and is regularly kept up to date; each Department has a ``smart classroom’’ equipped with modern teaching aids; science departments have modernised laboratories; wi-fi facilities are available on campus; hostels for the resident students are situated within the College precincts which also has extensive playgrounds, a gymnasium and an upcoming auditorium. It is compulsory for all students to undergo hands-on computer training and a course in communicative English. In addition, all students of the general streams have to participate in one of NCC, NSS or Physical Education; these activities help to improve their physical abilities and cultivate social consciousness among them. The Career Advancement Centre of the College makes every effort to see that students get jobs upon graduation through on-campus interviews. The College campus is constantly monitored by closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras; biometric attendance is compulsory for teachers and staff.

This prospectus aims to provide prospective students with all necessary information about Raja Narendra Lal Khan Women’s College, such as eligibility criteria and other requirements for admission, availability of subject combinations and facilities present. Once you join the College as a student I sincerely hope you will use all the facilities and opportunities it provides to grow into a complete, mature and socially aware human being and will be proud to talk about your College wherever you go.
