Introduction


Central Library of the Raja Narendra Lal Khan Women’s College, Midnapore is the nerve center for all academic activities of the Institute. It is housed in a newly constructed building (Dr Sushila Mandal Memorial Central Library) with sufficient space for Students and Teachers. It is almost fully automated and is one of the modern College libraries under Vidyasagar University.

This library was initiated along with the Intermediate and Degree level arts and Pure Science streams of this College in the year of 1957. From 1960 it became a full-fledged Central Library.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

  • To select, acquire, organize and utilize reading materials for the purpose of information dissemination, relevant to the aims and objectives of the institute.
  • To provide services to users for effective utilization of library resources.
  • To encourage reading habits particularly of the student community and to make them aware of the importance of Library in modern society.

FEATURES:

  • The Central Library follows the most modern systems by allowing readers to have direct access to the shelves of the books and journals in the reading room. The first copy of each title of books is kept there.
  • The Library has a rich Reference Section.
  • It uses the software, called “SOUL 2.0”. It is an integrated multi-user Library Management System designed by INFLIBNET.
  • It uses the barcode technology in its day to day operation
  • The Library has Institutional membership of the Central Library of Vidyasagar University.
  • Library hour: 10 am to 5 pm (Circulation – 10.30 am to 4.30 pm) on Monday to Friday and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.

CIRCULATION:

  • Transaction per day: 120
  • Average attendance in the Library per day: 300 (Students - 270, Teachers - 23, Non-teaching staff - 7)
  • Circulation system is automated
  • Students can issue 2 books for 15 days (they can issue an extra book as day-issue) and the faculties can issue 20 books for 4 months.
